Ingredients

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)
  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apples. Crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
